MMG College Football Playoffs Preview and Picks

ML Preview and Pick

The College Football Playoff for the 2025-2026 kicks off tonight in what SHOULD be the game of the weekend as the Oklahoma Sooners will be hosting the Alabama Crimson Tide.

They say that women lie, men lie, but numbers don’t… But do they? On Saturday, November 15, Bama outgained the Sooners by almost 200 yards total, had the ball for close to ten more minutes, and by all measure should’ve beat the Sooners by two scores. The difference as it always is and forever will be with evenly matched teams: turnovers. OU-0 Bama-3. Brent Venables is a more than worthy match for one of the best offensive minds in college football in Kalen DeBoer. OU will be going their third straight win against the Tide and this one means the most for both coaches.

Keys to the game:

1. Can Bama protect Ty Simpson enough to get the ball to explosive players like Germie Bernard, Ryan Williams, and Isiah Horton?

I could be crazy, but Ryan Williams reminds of the The Great Peter Warrick. Bama can’t win unless he gets touches.

For the young CFB lovers, Peter Warrick was the most electric player I’ve seen with the ball in his hands:

2. Can the Real John Mateer stand up? I’m not sure there is tougher QB in CFB than John Mateer, but over the last six weeks since coming back from injury he has been as inconsistent as a 3 year old learning how to potty train. The Sooners won’t be succesful on the offense unless Mateer brings his A game for OU to keep advancing in the playoffs.

My wishful thinking is that OU comes out and causes two more turnovers and scores on a defensive play sparking them to a 20-17 win over the Tide and Coach KDB is on a flight to Ann Arbor on Sunday morning after a day of negotiations and then getting ready for a Monday press conference in Schembechler Hall. However, do I want Michigan to pick a coach who has lost 4 games each of the last two seasons?

In reality, it is so hard to beat a team twice in a year let alone twice in 5 weeks. Oklahoma is going to be rested on defense and they will need some special Mateer moments to win. I hated seeing Alabama play against Georgia in the SEC Championship. It was less than inspiring to say the least. The first team to 20 wins.

Alabama (-1) at Oklahoma. The Pick: Alabama 17 Oklahoma 20

Oklahoma-Alabama Preview

Is Alabama still Alabama? Will Oklahoma beat the Crimson Tide twice in the matters of two months? We find out very soon!

In years past, it’s taken phenomenal games from opposing quarterbacks to take down Bama, but as we’ve seen this season that’s not the case. The Sooners caused three turnovers to lead them to the win in November in Tuscaloosa. John Mateer wasn’t great but he didn’t make any mistakes to cost his team the game.

Will Oklahoma’s defense be able to repeat that performance? Can Mateer make the big plays when it matters if called upon? Ty Simpson has a lot of pressure on him, as does Kalen Deboer. This is a must win for Bama.

Alabama (-1) at Oklahoma. The Pick: Alabama 24 Oklahoma 20
