Since the All Star Break, I started to realize that the Memphis Grizzlies were going to be playing May basketball. My hope was that we would get this series against a Warriors team whom is healthy as they have been since June 2019. Memphis finished the regular season as the 2 seed in the Western Conference, and in the beginning of April I thought home court advantage would be the difference in a 7 game series against Golden State. These teams on paper were that close in my eyes. However, pedigree and experience matters in playoffs basketball and the last time I checked playoffs basketball is played between the lines on a court and not on paper. Memphis is tough enough, but these playoffs have shown their flaws moreover than their strengths that made them the 2 seed. It will take four 48 minute complete games to take down this GSW team led by Steph Curry, the best player in the Western Conference remaining, and I don’t think Memphis has that in their locker. Trust me… I really hope they do, but in the opposite of Keith Sweat’s lyrics…. “Memphis may be young, but they ain’t ready.” Golden State looks like the more ready playoff basketball team and they will handle their business.

Golden State wins this series in 6 games.

The Grizzlies took a gigantic leap this season, ending the season with the second best record overall. They ended the Warriors season last year in the play-in, and have continued to be irritant when they’ve met this season. Although in fairness to the Warriors, when they were healthy they were neck and neck with the number one seeded Suns. They got back Klay Thompson, but lost Draymond Green just games before. They never were able to play as a full squad in the regular season with Steph, Klay and Draymond due to Steph getting injured late in the season. They picked up right where they left off in 2019 in the first round against the Nuggets. They look as dangerous as anyone left in the playoffs. The Grizzlies struggled with Minnesota which makes sense considering it’s two young teams trying to win their first series. But it doesn’t bode well when the next team up is a team that has won three championships in the last seven years. The Warriors are hungry to take back their crown, and I think it’s just too early for Memphis.

In the Grizzlies vs. Warriors matchup, it comes down to the execution on both sides of the ball. Right now, that favors the Warriors, especially with their ability to shoot. Depth and Defense is no longer an advantage for the Grizzlies like it was vs. the Twolves, so their best players must remain on the court. The offensive production of Jaren Jackson Jr. And Dillon Brooks is the x-factor in this series, and could be the difference in the Warriors winning in five or the series going 7 games.
