With the many roster changes this team has made in just this past week, it’s safe to say that it will be an interesting year for the Minnesota Lynx. We are going to have to wait and see how this team looks without some of their key pieces from last season. Many will be tuned into this team in particular to watch legendary center Sylvia Fowles play her final season in her career.
The two-time champion is calling it quits after 15 seasons in the league. The story of the season will mostly be the farewell tour for the four-time Defensive Player of the Year, as well as what direction the Lynx move after this season.
It seems like Minnesota is already looking toward their future. Star forward Napheesa Collier will likely be missing the whole 2022 season due to pregnancy, but the Lynx signed her to a long-term deal. This was a no-brainer for the Lynx as they secured their future face of the franchise.
Aerial Powers is a player that should be on everyone’s radar this upcoming season. With the recent moves made by the Lynx, look for her to possibly have an improved role with the team. If healthy, Powers can be a difference-maker for Minnesota this year.
The Lynx did make notable cuts right before the start of the season. 2020 Rookie of the Year Crystal Dangerfield and Layshia Clarendon were just two of the many cuts the Lynx made this past week. This left many fans of the league confused as both players were expected to make the team. After cuts were made, the Lynx picked up veteran wing Odyssey Sims.
While it’s unclear what the Lynx plans are yet, it is certain that Cheryl Reeve has something up her sleeve. Don’t expect this team to be competing for a championship this year but more so putting themselves in a position to compete for one in the years to come.
