WWE is returning to PLE action, and, for the first time, they will be in Scotland with a stacked card promising an international crowd that could rival the excitement of Backlash, an earlier event held in France.
What makes this event even more remarkable is the presence of local heroes in two championship matches: Piper Niven taking on Bayley for the WWE Women’s Championship and Drew McIntyre facing off against Damien Priest for the World Heavyweight Championship. This moment could be significant in front of a home crowd. And last but not least, The American Nightmare, Cody Rhodes, will go head-to-head with AJ Styles in WWE’s 26th I Quit Match in history, a stipulation that promises an electrifying showdown.
To catch all the action, tune in to this PLE event on Peacock starting at 1 PM Eastern Time. But without further ado, let’s dive into these predictions.
Pierre’s Clash of the Castle Predictions
WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship — Bianca Belair and Jade Cargill (c) vs. Alba Fyre and Isla Dawn vs. Shayna Baszler and Zoey Stark
Tension has been building among these three teams for a few weeks. Tag Team Champions Jade Cargill and Bianca Belair have moved from Raw to Smackdown to demonstrate their dominance throughout WWE, and we don’t expect Clash of the Castle to be any different. The champions will retain their titles and maintain prominence leading up to SummerSlam.
Intercontinental Championship — Sami Zayn (c) vs. Chad Gable
In recent weeks, Chad Gable has been relentless in his pursuit of the IC Championship, repeatedly attacking Sami Zayn and showing disrespect to the Alpha Academy members, even eliciting the famous “You Suck” chants from the audience. On the other hand, Sami Zayn has been trying to support the Alpha Academy and empower its members.
Zayn will retain the championship as the Alpha Academy, particularly Otis, finally stands up to Gable and costs him another opportunity.
WWE Women’s Championship — Bayley (c) vs. Piper Niven
Piper Niven is about to have a lifetime opportunity by competing in a championship match in her home country. She is an experienced wrestler with all the skills to make this championship match exciting. However, Bayley will likely retain her title, as WWE is setting up a match between Bayley and Nia Jax at Summerslam. Nevertheless, we can still expect a fantastic match and a standing ovation for Piper. It’s always special for superstars to have their hometown crowd cheering them on.
Undisputed WWE Championship — Cody Rhodes (c) vs. AJ Styles (“I Quit” Match)
AJ Styles, also known as the Phenomenal One and Mark Henry 2.0, staged a retirement as a deceptive tactic to turn on Cody Rhodes and position himself for a championship opportunity. Styles fully embraces his villainous persona, which is when he does his best work.
These two last faced each other at Backlash, my match of the year besides the Wrestlemania 40 main event. Since becoming the champion, Cody Rhodes has consistently delivered outstanding performances, as Sheamus says, “Banger after Banger after Banger.” I believe Rhodes will once again emerge victorious in an intense and memorable I Quit Match and continue to lead the charge in the Paul Leveque Era
World Heavyweight Championship – Damian Priest (c) vs. Drew McIntyre
I’m conflicted about this matchup. Damian Priest has been an excellent champion despite what anyone says. His reign has featured great matches and even better promos, and the Judgement Day drama has intensified it. WWE has hinted that Priest and Gunther could face off at Summerslam, but they have also built up Drew McIntyre’s momentum week after week.
This could lead to a well-deserved victory for Drew and one of the biggest pops. There might be some CM Punk controversy that could cost McIntyre the World Heavyweight Championship, similar to what happened at Wrestlemania. However, I think WWE will finally give the lunatic Scot his moment in front of the Scottish fans.
Tariq’s Clash of the Castle Predictions
WWE Women’s Championship
Bayley vs Piper Niven
This is the opportunity of a lifetime for Piper Niven, much like Isla, Alba and Drew. This is by far the biggest match of her career, and in her home country on top of that. Bayley is incredibly underrated and this match has the opportunity to be really good with the atmosphere the Scotland crowd will bring.
Tariq’s prediction: Bayley
WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship
Bianca Belair and Jade Cargill vs Shayna Baszler and Zoey Stark vs Isla Dawn and Alba Fyre
The Superhero tag team of Bianca and Jade have some tough opponents ahead of them. Isla and Alba have been tag team champions in NXT before so they have some experience in this setting. Shayna has a few tag team championship reigns under her belt, and Zoey has one in NXT. If there’s any way Belair and Cargill lose a match, it’d have to be in this kind of situation. But they are on a roll right now, I can’t see it.
Tariq’s prediction: Bianca and Jade
WWE Intercontinental Championship
Sami Zayn vs Chad Gable
This is probably the best storyline in WWE right now, this match could literally go either way. Gable could finally get his big singles moment, in Scotland of all places. Zayn could retain clean, or with some help Otis and the Alpha Academy.
Tariq’s prediction: Gable wins
WWE Undisputed Universal Championship
AJ Styles vs Cody Rhodes “I Quit Match”
This one should be phenomenal, no pun intended, after their first encounter last month. Cody’s reign needs a challenger like AJ, he needed someone to push him to another level. We are at a “crossroads”, pun intended. AJ is my guy, and he is definitely capable of winning this, but I can’t see Cody saying those two words.
Tariq’s prediction: Cody wins
WWE World Heavyweight Championship
Damian Priest vs Drew McIntyre
This is the one. Drew has another shot to win a World Championship in his home country. Famously, his first world title reign happened in front of no one. This one could be in front of his loved ones. OR, CM Punk could once again throw a wrench in Drew’s plans, which would set that arena ablaze. Priest is at a pivotal moment in his career, either way this match goes. He hasn’t felt super important to this point in my opinion, so the result of this match is more important for him than anyone else on this card.
Tariq’s prediction: Drew McIntyre wins
